We love our volunteers! The Alliance is so grateful for our amazing group of volunteers. This group of dedicated animal lovers and community advocates makes our work possible. From pet food donations to animal transport – all of our programs benefit from the support of our volunteer network. We’ve included details below on some of our programs and how volunteers support the Alliance.

Are you interested in “sharing” a pet with one of our rescue partners? Opening your home to a shelter pet temporarily can make all the difference! We can learn invaluable lessons about the best fit for a forever family, allow the pet time to decompress and relax, and make space at the shelter for other animals. Check out our Pet Sharing page for more details.
A busy pet is a happy pet. Enrichment in the form of KONGS, popsicles and other oral “puzzles” help to satisfy dogs’ instinctual needs. Thanks to volunteers who make and stuff these special frozen treats, shelter dogs can fulfill the need to chew and play. They also can help solve unwanted behaviors by keeping them engaged. We welcome you to join our Boredom Busters team!
Our rescue partners often need help getting East Orange Shelter pets from shelters to fosters. The shelter also sometimes needs help getting shelter pets to veterinary appointments. Thats where our volunteer network steps to the plate! Come join our transport team.
Exercise is vital for a physically and mentally healthy shelter dogs. We are so grateful that the team from the “Positive Pittie Pack Walks” has been supporting us to organize Pack Walks for shelter dogs. We welcome volunteers to join us for these weekend walks in Wattsessing Park.
Each month, the Alliance delivers pet food to the Calvary Baptist Church for pet food-insecure families in East Orange. We are always looking for cat and dog food donations for this food pantry.
